The KCL History Society is proud to announce the formation of our student-run historical journal, the King’s College Historical Review!

We are founding this to allow King’s students the opportunity to get their work published, something which is incredibly impressive for a student to accomplish.

The Review will be open to submissions from all King’s students, regardless of whether you are an undergraduate, postgraduate, or PhD student.

Submissions can come in the form of an academic paper or as less formal article on a historical topic. For academic papers, they should be submitted in the same format as any other history paper, including Chicago-style citations.

For articles, you are not required to use citations or write in any specific format. (Though you can do this if you wish too.) There is no maximum word count, though we would ask that any submissions be at least 800 words.

You are allowed to submit work that you have previously used for a module at King’s, though we also highly encourage you to write original work. If you are submitting work from a module that has yet to be marked, please talk with your marker first to make sure they are fine with this. This is also true if you are taking elements from ongoing work, such as if you plan to submit a chapter from your dissertation to the Review. Please also let us know whether it is an original work or a repurposed assignment.

As many of you may know, this will be the first ever edition of the King’s College Historical Review, and getting your work published in creates many great opportunities for you; as well as being something to take pride in in itself, having published work looks great on CVs and on applications for postgraduate degrees.

Submissions should be in by the 26th of February 2024.
